GETTING STARTED: WHAT TO EXPECT

STEP ONE

BROWSE WEBSITE

Does my therapeutic approach and counseling style resonate with the work you’d like to do? If so, let’s meet!  Requests for a free consultation can be made using the form above.

Please note:

  • Telehealth regulations require my clients to be in WA State at the time of all counseling sessions.

  • I am an out-of-network provider and issue superbills (detailed receipts) for clients to submit to their insurance provider for possible reimbursement.

STEP TWO

CONSULTATION

A strong relationship with your counselor is essential for effective therapy. During our consultation, we’ll explore whether we’re a good fit. This is your opportunity to assess our connection, your comfort level, and whether my approach, your goals, and our personalities align. I’ll also evaluate how I can best support you moving forward.

When choosing a counselor, trust your gut and consider:

  • Do you feel listened to and understood?

  • Is the counselor’s communication clear and easy to follow?

  • Does their sincerity and expertise feel trustworthy?

  • Are they someone you’ll want to open up to?

  • How do you feel after the consultation—hopeful, motivated, confused, skeptical, judged?

STEP THREE

CLIENT FORMS

If we agree to work together, we’ll schedule a 70-minute intake session. I’ll email you essential documents, including instructions for accessing our HIPAA-compliant appointments. Please read all documents thoroughly and complete them before our intake session. If you have any questions beforehand, please don’t hesitate to email me.

STEP FOUR

INTAKE SESSION

This 70-minute session allows us to clarify the terms of service and explore what brought you to counseling. We’ll review your completed forms and address any questions you may have.

Using your intake questionnaire as a guide, we’ll discuss what’s working in your life, what isn’t, and your goals for counseling. If you’re nervous about sharing, that’s okay—I’ll ask questions to help you feel at ease.

There’s no obligation to continue after this session; you’re free to decide whether we’re the right fit. If you choose to move forward, you can schedule your next appointment.

STEP FIVE

COUNSELING SESSIONS

In our sessions, we’ll work together to overcome obstacles, gain clarity, and develop personalized strategies for positive change. We’ll explore the origins and impacts of deep-rooted thoughts and emotions that shape your experiences.

You can set the focus for each session, and I’ll help ensure we stay on track. I recommend starting with weekly meetings to reduce symptoms and build skills, then tapering off as you feel more confident and resilient.

STEP SIX

REFRESHERS

After ending counseling, I encourage you to schedule occasional refresher sessions while life is going well. These check-ins are like routine doctor visits—proactive care is vital for maintaining good mental health.

Many clients find these sessions reinvigorating, leaving with renewed motivation and clarity to live with greater intention. Even if significant time has passed, the trust and understanding we built will remain, allowing us to efficiently address any new challenges.

If you decide to resume regular counseling, you’re welcome to do so. Please note that there may be a waitlist, even for returning clients, so plan ahead if possible.
